The people who attacked the capitol on January 6 attacked police officers, injured over 140 police officers, sacked the capitol and built a gallows to hang Mike Pence and maybe others, are criminals. If the people who attacked the capitol were BLM or Antifa and not Trump supporters Republicans and right wing media would call them what they are traitors, insurrectionist, seditionist,  and criminals who should be in jail.

Republicans in the House are planning to use a potential showdown next year over raising the federal debt limit to make changes in Social Security and Medicare, Bloomberg’s Jack Fitzpatrick reports. The developing plan hinges on Republicans winning control of the House in the midterm elections, an outcome that is looking likely. Four GOP lawmakers who are vying for leadership of the House Budget Committee in the event of a Republican victory told Fitzpatrick that the need to raise the debt ceiling could give them the leverage they need to force Democrats to make concessions.

“The debt limit is clearly one of those tools that Republicans — that a Republican-controlled Congress — will use to make sure that we do everything we can to make this economy strong,” Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), the senior Republican on the current Budget Committee, said. Republicans are still discussing exactly what changes they might try to enact. “What would we consider a win?” said Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA), who is interested in the top spot on the Budget Committee. “What would we consider to be a fiscally responsible budget?”

As more and more information comes out you have to wonder was it an inside job, who was involved, how far up it goes, were the two coup attempts connected and were any foreign governments involved.

Currently 8,146,377 Americans have the coronavirus and 221,801 have died in six months from the coronavirus, because of Trump’s inaction, maybe in America we should call the Trump Flu. Most of the Americans who have died may have lived if not for Trump’s inaction. We do not know how many more Americas will die from the Trump Flu but most of them would have lived if not for Trump’s inaction. Trump knew the dangers of the Trump Flu his inactions caused the needles deaths of most of the 221,801. We do not know full total number of people who have died from the Trump Flu or how many more Americans will die because of Trumps inaction.

Instead of being honest with the American people, he continues to be dishonest about how deadly it is by telling the American people that it is no deadly that the flu and that is not true. The flu killed 37,000 people in 2019; in 2020, the Trump Flu killed 221,801 in six months, nearly six times as many people died in half the time, which is not like the flu it is six times deadly than the flu. Trump and Republicans have been using alternative fact on us maybe they are using alternative math as well.

Trump should be charged with homicide because he knew how deadly the Trump Flu was and did not tell the America people and to this day, he has not come out and told the truth to the America people. In addition, Trump and his campaign went around the country infecting people including themselves at his campaign events, Herman Cain died shortly after attending a Trump event. We do not know how many people have gotten the Trump Flu or died from it by attending a Trump event, but it was reckless for Trump to put people at risk without telling them how high deadly the Trump Flu and not taking the appropriate precaution such as mask and social distancing to protect the people at his events.

Maybe we were expecting too much of Trump to think he could or would protect us from the Trump Flu, considering Trump could not or rather would not protect himself, his family, his staff the White House, his supporters or the American people from the Trump Flu obviously he is not up to the job.  The America people need to fire Donald J. Trump, we need to vote him out of office before he kills more Americans and does even more damage to our institutions and our democracy.

In June, President Trump sat in the Oval Office for one of his periodic interviews-turned-airing-of-grievances. When the conversation turned to the 2020 election, Trump singled out what he called the “biggest risk” to his bid for a second term. It was not the mounting death toll from COVID-19, or further economic damage inflicted by the pandemic, or anything else a reality-dwelling president might fret about.

“My biggest risk is that we don’t win lawsuits,” Trump told the Politico reporter he’d invited. He was referring to the series of lawsuits filed by his campaign and the Republican National Committee that fight the expansion of mail-in voting and seek to limit access to the ballot box in November. “We have many lawsuits going all over,” he said. “And if we don’t win those lawsuits, I think — I think it puts the election at risk.”

Going into 2020, Trump had the political winds at his back with a strong economy, roaring stock market, and historically low unemployment. Then came COVID-19. As of this writing, more than 135,000 Americans are dead from the virus, more than 3 million have gotten infected, and the economy has tipped into Great Depression territory. When Donald Trump decided to back-burner the coronavirus crisis and reboot his reelection campaign with superspreader events in June, he headed to an arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to present his case for four more years. In front of an audience of maskless fans standing side by side, Trump performed his usual routine. He threw out buzzwords (“law and order,” “left-wing radicals”). He boasted. (“I have done a phenomenal job” responding to the pandemic.) He denigrated his opponent as “Sleepy Joe.” He obsessed over personal grievances and slights, devoting much time to slamming news outlets that had recently shown video of him walking gingerly down a ramp after delivering a commencement address at West Point. What was mostly missing from Trump’s speech: ideas.

Although he referred to his tax cuts for the wealthy, his appointment of conservative judges, and his “beautiful” wall on the US-Mexico border, Trump had little to say about economic policy, national security, health care, education, housing, the environment, and other subjects. Moreover, he offered no agenda for a second term other than vague promises of making everything swell. Days later, during a friendly Fox News “town hall,” Sean Hannity asked Trump to spell out his plans for a second term. In his relationship with Republican political elites, as in other areas of endeavor, President Trump has followed the model of “personalist rule” used by leaders like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Some of these rulers destroy democracy, and others, like the Italian politician Silvio Berlusconi, govern nominally open societies in undemocratic ways. Yet personalist rule always concentrates power in one individual whose own political and financial interests and private relationships with other despots often prevail over national interests in shaping domestic and foreign policy. Loyalty to this head of state and his allies, rather than expertise, is a primary qualification for serving him, whether as ministers or bureaucrats, as is participation in his corruption schemes. more...

Senate Republicans’ decision to vote on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s successor reflects individual and collective cost-benefit calculations of seating a rock-ribbed conservative in what may be the Trump administration’s waning days. As a fig leaf to obscure the hypocrisy of voting on President Trump’s election-year nominee after refusing to vote on President Obama’s in early 2016, Republicans have claimed an historical norm that doesn’t exist.

In March 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to justify denying a vote on Obama’s nomination of DC Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia: “All we are doing is following the long-standing tradition of not fulfilling a nomination in the middle of a presidential year.”

There is no such tradition. The table shows the nine Supreme Court vacancies in place during election years in the Court’s post-Civil War era—once Congress stabilized the Court’s membership at nine and the justices largely stopped serving as trial judges in the old circuit courts. Those nine election-year vacancies (out of over 70 in the period) were all filled in the election year—one by a 1956 uncontested recess appointment and eight by Senate confirmation.

Last year, given the lack of any “long-standing tradition” but anticipating the possibility of an election-year vacancy, McConnell fabricated a different history to justify treating a Trump nominee differently from Obama’s. He argued that “[y]ou have to go back to … 1880s to find the last time … a Senate of a different party from the president filled a Supreme Court vacancy created in the middle of a presidential election. That was entirely the precedent.” When that anticipation became reality with the death of Justice Ginsburg, he offered a slightly different excuse: “Since the 1880s, no Senate has confirmed an opposite-party president’s Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year”. At about this time during presidential election years, senators have invoked the so-called Thurmond Rule, an unwritten agreement that calls for the chamber to stop approving circuit court nominations in the few months before Election Day. Named after the late South Carolina Republican Sen. Strom Thurmond, senators from both sides have used it to block action on a president’s appeals court picks. Confederates were American traitors who should not be honored for attacking America so they could keep slaves. Protecting the monuments of traitor’s means in some way you support what the people who committed treason against America did. We should not honor traitors; honoring traitors gives the impression that you can commit treason against America and be honored. Confederates were American traitors, treason is nothing to celebrate or honor. Confederate symbols are symbols of hate and traitors and continues to divide America. White supremacists use confederate symbols to promote hate and fear. As long as America celebrates and honors the traitors of the confederacy, we will be a divided country and never be a truly great country. Celebrating the confederacy is to dishonor true American heroes. We should not honor the traitors who fought against our country that dishonors all the great Americans who have fought and died for our country. The confederacy was a group of traitors who lost get over it so we can get past it and make an America a truly great nation.

(CNN) More than 155 years after the end of the Civil War, America is finally having a more complete moral reckoning with the Confederacy. The issue is the legacy of white supremacy. Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens spelled it out in a March 1861 speech: "Our new government is founded upon ... the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition." This is a matter of hate, not heritage. And today we're seeing Confederate statutes toppled across the country and Confederate flags banned from NASCAR races. Leading military figures say the time has come to rename military bases that were named after Confederate generals — even as President Donald Trump makes plain his opposition. But as the nation confronts the ugliest aspects of its history, we need to recognize that there is a fundamental difference between statues of American presidents like Abraham Lincoln and statues of American traitors like Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Progress is being made. In Charleston, South Carolina, Mayor John Tecklenburg announced Wednesday that the city would take down the statue of slavery and secession defender John C. Calhoun and put it in a museum. This is overdue and all to the good. Some of these statues were put up by the sons and daughters of Confederates, perhaps trying to find a measure of dignity in defeat while also aiming to literally recast history. Others were erected in the years after the Supreme Court ordered desegregation in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 to send a message of Southern defiance.

So far this month, two New York City police commanders have been arrested on corruption allegations, an officer in Killeen, Tex., has been accused of sexually assaulting a female driver, a Philadelphia police officer has been charged with extortion of a drug dealer, and an officer in Hono­lulu has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl. Such sporadic news accounts of police officers being arrested led one group of researchers to a question: How much crime do police officers commit?  No one was keeping track, much as no one was tracking how often police officers shoot and kill civilians, although both may involve use of police power and abuse of public trust. Now there is an answer: Police officers are arrested about 1,100 times a year, or roughly three officers charged every day, according to a new national study. The most common crimes were simple assault, drunken driving and aggravated assault, and significant numbers of sex crimes were also found. About 72 percent of officers charged in cases with known outcomes are convicted, more than 40 percent of the crimes are committed on duty, and nearly 95 percent of the officers charged are men. The study is thought to be the first-ever nationwide look at police crime, and was conducted by researchers at Bowling Green State University through a grant from the Justice Department’s National Institute of Justice. The research covered seven years, 2005 to 2011, and sought to quantify not only the prevalence of police officers arrested across the country, but also how law enforcement agencies discipline officers who are arrested and how officer arrests might correlate with other forms of misconduct.

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California on Tuesday played a video of Candace Owens' controversial comments on Adolf Hitler and nationalism as the rising conservative star testified on white nationalism at the invitation of GOP lawmakers. The hearing was held by the House Judiciary Committee, and Owens was among eight witnesses on the panel. During his remarks, Lieu noted that the minority party is allowed to choose its own witnesses for such hearings. "Of all the people that Republicans could have selected, they picked Candace Owens," Lieu said. "I don't know Ms. Owens. I'm not going to characterize her. I'm going to let her own words do the talking." The California lawmaker played 30 seconds of remarks Owens made at a conference in London late last year. She said at the time that she thought the definition of "nationalism" "gets poisoned by elitists that actually want globalism — globalism is what I don't want." "Whenever we say 'nationalism,' the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler," she said. "You know, he was a national socialist, but if Hitler had just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine."

Conservative political commentator Candace Owens faced backlash on Twitter for propagating numerous conspiracy theories and controversial opinions related to coronavirus, ideas that appear to be giving her more attention. One of the most contentious has been her insistence that "the virus was never as fatal" as experts said, noting death projections that have been adjusted as the pandemic has spread, and that the public response has been overblown. While the main model used to predict US COVID-19 deaths did reduce its death toll prediction, Dr. Gregory Roth of the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation told CNN that the model is frequently updated based on new data, which can be an indication that social distancing measures have been successful in mitigating the spread of the virus. Owens has argued that social distancing measures have been overblown and that people should be allowed to reenter public spaces.

President Trump's controversial foray to St. John's Church on Monday is generating widespread criticism, after police and National Guard troops physically cleared out demonstrators, using tear gas, to allow a photo opportunity outside the church. The bishop who oversees St. John's is among the critics. "He used violent means to ask to be escorted across the park into the courtyard of the church," Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington tells NPR's Morning Edition. "He held up his Bible after speaking [an] inflammatory militarized approach to the wounds of our nation." "He did not pray," the bishop continued. "He did not offer a word of balm or condolence to those who are grieving. He did not seek to unify the country, but rather he used our symbols and our sacred space as a way to reinforce a message that is antithetical to everything that the person of Jesus, whom we follow, and the gospel texts that we strive to emulate ... represent." Every president since James Madison has visited St. John's Church, which opened in 1816 and sits across the park from the White House. Despite that longstanding relationship, Budde says her diocese had no warning of Monday's visit. "There was no reaching out, no sense that it would require some sort of authorization before using the church as a backdrop in that way," Budde told NPR's Tom Gjelten hours after the incident. The president had used the Bible, and her church, as a prop, she said.

(CNN) A former minister at the church President Donald Trump used as the backdrop for a photo Monday evening slammed the move as "a sacrilege for all people of all faiths." Following a speech from the White House Rose Garden, the President walked to St. John's Episcopal Church, a house of worship used by American presidents for more than a century. Peaceful protesters just outside the White House gates were dispersed with tear gas, flash grenades and rubber bullets. It was all, apparently, so Trump could visit the church. "I couldn't believe it," the Rev. Gini Gerbasi, who was among the people cleared away from St. John's Church, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead" Tuesday. "When I realized that people had been hurt and terrified for a political stunt, I -- like, offended hardly begins to describe how I feel. I feel -- it was a sacrilege for all people of all faiths -- faiths that are grounded in peacefulness and loving, compassion, reconciliation, wholeness, healing, forgiveness, peace, love, compassion." The move, she continued, "was a sacrilege. An absolute sacrilege." The photo-op followed nearly a week of protests across the country that at times have turned violent over the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis. Trump had been angered by news coverage depicting him holed up in an underground bunker amid protests in Washington. He told aides on Monday he wanted to be seen outside the White House gates, according to a person familiar with the matter, which is part of what drove the decision to stage the photo-op at St. John's Church. Recounting how authorities began charging the crowd in lockstep, Gerbasi said she was "helping wipe away tears in people's eyes and try to tend to them and help them on the grounds and suddenly the police were pushing us back." "And the people were dropping to the ground, afraid. And they were -- when they'd hear those flash sounds, they thought they were being shot, and people were running at us. And literally at some point, when I looked up and the police were so close, I had to just grab some things and run."

Donald J. Trump may talk tough but he is not tough nor is he smart. If he were tough, he would not have hid in the bunker when the protest got close to the Whitehouse. If Trump were smart, he would realize why people are protesting and make an attempt to address the issue.

The smart police officers who marched with the protesters had fewer issues than the police officers who fought the protesters. The strong take from the weak and the smart take from the strong. America needs a smart president not a weak one that hides in a bunker when he gets sacred of American protesters getting to close to the Whitehouse.

President Donald Trump on Friday commuted the prison sentence of his longtime friend Roger Stone, who was convicted of crimes that included lying to Congress in part, prosecutors said, to protect the President. The announcement came just days before Stone was set to report to a federal prison in Georgia. Stone was convicted in November of seven charges -- including lying to Congress, witness tampering and obstructing a congressional committee proceeding -- as part of former special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Among the things he misled Congress about were his communications with Trump campaign officials -- communications that prosecutors said Stone hid out of his desire to protect Trump.
